Settler's Farm Field Trip

Yesterday students were amazing farmers on a beautiful fall day!   Thank you to all our parent volunteers!   We couldn't have done it without you!

We helped Farmer Mark and the Settler's Farm harvest pounds and pounds of carrots!

We did a relay race!  Students sorted food pictures based on whether is was made from a plant or made from an animal.  Some foods are made with both plants and animals!

Students brought farm journals and had some time to write in a new environment.  We let the farm inspire our ideas.  Some wrote poems or fantasy stories about farm animals, while others wrote non-fiction books about plants.

Help Needed!

Looking for a classroom connector!
Our class is in need of a classroom connector(s).  This person would be responsible for organizing supplies for class celebrations or special events. For example creating a Sign-Up Genius for supplies to be donated for a Harvest Celebration or a Valentine's Day party. If you are interested or want more information please contact me at jacqueline.robinson@cesuvt.org or by calling RES at 434-2461. Thanks!

Highlights from the week!

Big Buddies!
2nd graders got to meet their 6th grade Big Buddy from CHMS on Friday! Students were so excited to meet a new friend!  Buddies got to know each other by talking about things they like to do outside of school. Then they worked together to follow steps to draw a picture of the Mayflower.  They also looked at books together!  We're so excited to go over to CHMS next month and see our Big Buddies in their classroom!

Reader's Workshop
Students are working on becoming more independent during Reader's Workshop.  During literacy students do a variety of activities such as reading to themselves, reading with a partner, listening to reading on the computer (Raz-Kids), reading with a teacher, writing about their reading, or working on word work (spelling skills)

Writing True Stories

This Week During Writer's Workshop!

Students are currently writing true stories and making them into books just like real authors!  So....how do we write a story?

First think of an idea!
Students use their Tiny Topic Notepad to select an idea.  Over the past few weeks students have been adding many ideas to their Tiny Topic Notepads!

Next, plan out your story!

Students will talk their story aloud and across blank pages in their books.  Then they plan each part of their story with pictures.

Then, write, write, write!!!

The goal is for students to match words to their pictures.
